PDF and document remediation for agencies
We repair the structure inside PDF, Word and PowerPoint files so people using screen readers and other assistive technology can read them in the right order, with headings, tables and images described.
Starting price $6 / page
Who it is for
- Agencies whose clients publish PDFs, Word documents or PowerPoint decks: public notices, annual reports, forms, board papers, course material and brochures.
- Teams that need documents fixed before they go on a public website or into a procurement pack.
What we need from you
- The files to fix. If you have the original Word or PowerPoint file, send it as well as the PDF.
- The page count and your deadline.
- Any client preferences for alt text or document titles.
- Files can be attached to an email or shared through a Google Drive or Dropbox link.
Work included
- A tag tree, so assistive technology can tell what each part of the page is.
- A logical reading order.
- Headings tagged in order.
- Alt text for meaningful images; decorative images marked so they are skipped.
- Table header cells, so data tables can be read cell by cell.
- Labels for form fields.
- Document language and title.
- The PDF/UA identifier, where the file meets the checks.
Deliverables
- The remediated files, in the same format you sent unless agreed otherwise.
- A dated report under your agency’s brand listing what was checked, what was changed and anything the author still needs to fix in the source content.
Testing approach
- Automated PDF/UA check with PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker).
- Manual review of the tag tree, reading order, alt text and table structure.
- Screen-reader read-through with NVDA.
Automated tools find only part of the barriers WCAG covers, so every delivery also includes the manual review listed above.
Starting price
From $6 / page. Complex tables and forms from $12 / page. The final price is fixed in your quote after we have seen the files.
Standard delivery is the listed price. Express (+25%) and Overnight (+50%) are available only where shown under delivery options, subject to confirmed scope and availability.
Not included
- Rewriting or editing the content itself, such as plain-language changes.
- Translation.
- Image-only (scanned) pages are assessed before quoting, because they need text recognition first.
- Any statement that a document is legally “compliant”.
